I would love your help in class or on field trips!

Dear Parents/Guardians, The fourth grade students will be attending their first study trip on Monday, November 27. Students will be studying adaptations animals have in order to meet their basic needs for survival. This study trip will launch the students into the world of scientific inquiry as they prepare to do a research project after the first of the year. We will be leaving school as soon as possible so it is important to arrive on time. The students will be returning to school by the regular dismissal time (3:25 pm). The first part of the day will be spent in the new Polk Penguin Exhibit, where students will be investigating special tools, traits and behaviors the penguin has to survive in their unique environment. We will be working together through several inquiry tasks at this exhibit. After completing our work together, students will be able to explore other animals at the zoo with their group chaperone. They will have an inquiry guide sheet to help them look at the animals through a new lens. We will gather indoors for lunch at a designated time. Students MUST bring a lunch from home. Our time is limited and we cannot take any extra time for standing in line waiting for food. Please send your child with a paper bag lunch with a disposable drink. Each class has room for 5 parent chaperones. Chaperones will need to be on the district's approved volunteer list. There is no charge for chaperones. Warm clothes and comfortable walking shoes are a MUST! The cost for this study trip is $7.00. Please complete, detach, and return the permission slip at the bottom of this letter with the $7 fee by Friday, November 10, 2017.
If you have any questions, please contact any of the fourth grade teachers.
Thank you, Mrs. Hoehing (285-8729) Ms. Lacross (285-8724) Mrs. Hayden (285-8730) _______________________________________________________________________ My child _____________________________ will / will not (circle one) be attending the Detroit Zoo field trip on November 27, 2017. _____ Yes, I am interested in being a parent chaperone.
